This is the traditional celebration for when the local cattle are taken up to the mountain pastures to graze.
The Fête starts at midday with a 4 course Beef meal and continues through the afternoon with the farmers catching up on the local gossip, the 'light' evening meal is then served with a serenade in traditional Auvergne music.
Fire of St Jean
This is the traditional celebration for the summer solstice which originates back more than 2000 years
Our village square in Marchal is prepared weeks in advance with the planting of a fully grown pine tree. A bonfire is then built up around it with the locals allowed to add their own wood cutting should they wish. The celebrations start with an open-air meal that is prepared by the local Auberge and drinks available from a stall. Then after 11pm the fire is lit, usually with the accompaniment of fireworks and the dancing begins.
